Research Centre for Senior Executives using management flight simulators

Abstract This paper outlines the foundations of a new research centre at the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) and the University of Sydney. This research centre focuses on accelerating the development of flexible expertise in senior executives using management flight simulators. The approach draws on identifying a set of managerial challenges, some generic and common across many firms and industries and others specific to an industry or firm, and building the analytical knowledge base, interpersonal leadership and self regulatory mechanisms and language/communication skills for effective management of those challenges. Simulation learning interventions will be supplemented with coaching and mentoring throughout the five year longitudinal research program. Several blue chip industry partners are collaborating with the research team and a new behavioral lab will be established at the AGSM.
